Czech-Malaysia Technology Days
The Czech Republic is known as an industrial country with traditional export of heavy industry and engineering commodities. However structure of production changed in past years due to impact of foreign investments: new branches, such as electro-technical industry, ICT are growing rapidly. But the Czech Republic has also strong research and development base and unexceptionable results in many scientific branches. Excellent results of Czech scientists are world-known in branches like biotechnology and pharmacy, electron beam lithography, robotics, optics and nanotechnology.
Although situated in the heart of Europe, the Czech Republic is very open to the world and giving a big importance to the cooperation with the countries of South-East Asia and in particular with Malaysia.
The relations between our two countries have always been smooth and sound, but there is still space to enhance existing ties, open up new chapters in various areas, such as trade and investment, research, education, environment and tourism.
Currently almost 250 students from Malaysia study medicine in the Czech Republic and we are ready to welcome more. Trade relations between both countries are growing steadily. Last year trade turnover reached USD 1 025 mil. Although the Czech exports are on the increase, we still run a significant trade deficit with Malaysia that is the cause of huge import of electronic components and parts for computer assemblage. We expect opportunities for change of that situation in cooperation in hi-tech products and new technologies. First examples of such cooperation are registered in the field of pharmacy and sophisticated security systems.
