Czech-Finland Technology and Innovation Days 2009

From June 2-4.6, 2009 the Czech-Finland Technology and Innovation Days took place in Helsinki. This event was organized between the Czech and Finnish groups of experts in order to improve mutual relationships particularly in the field of science, technology and innovations. The Czech delegation, which met during three days in Helsinki their Finnish partners, was headed by advisor to the Czech Prime Minister, Mr Peter J Kalas. The Czech-Finland Technology and Innovation Days were opened by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic Mr. Vladimir Kotzy at SITRA (Finnish Innovation Fund) on June 2, 2009.

The Czech Ambassador notified this event as a first step towards deeper and more fruitful co-operation. In this context the Czech-Finland Technology and Innovation days create a favorable environment for a dialogue between the Czech and Finnish experts in the field of research, development and innovation. The system of financing of technology development and innovations and also environmental policy were the key elements in discussions at SITRA. Several other topics, such as Role of Technology and Information Centers, Foresight policy and the Role of renewable energy were discussed also during other days at TEKES (Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation), VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland) and finally at the Embassy of the Czech Republic.

The Czech group, composed of experts from the Government of the Czech Republic, Masaryk University of Brno, State Environmental of the Czech Republic, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry and Trade, CzechInvest, Czech Biofuels Technology Platform, Academy of Science and Nuclear Research Institute, visited also Neste Oil refinery in Porvoo and Fortum’s Nuclear Power Plant in Loviisa to discuss the possibility of future cooperation in the field of production of fuel and nuclear energy.
